This is the geographical layout of my installation. This piece depicts every regularly-occurring species of Montana songbirds, at their point of highest population density within the state. Each fabric scroll marks one point on the Montana map, with the back left being the northwest, and the front right being the southeast, and so on. Each point represents a unique and vibrant biome, separated by altitude, precipitation, vegetation, wind, and temperature. Many of the points correspond to population centers, a result of bias created by increased human observation. This pattern of human interaction overlaying the existing natural tapestry is a fascinating aspect of my work as an artist and a scientist.
